THE USE OF ELECTRIC ENERGY IN THE TRANSPORT SECTOR IN THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA - DIRECTIONS AND CHALLENGES

The panel was held on 27 June 2022, at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the University of Belgrade,organized by the Serbian Energy Law Association (UPES) and the Society of Thermal Engineers of Serbia.

The panel was welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Prof. dr. Vladimir Popović, President of the Society of Thermal Engineers of Serbia, Prof. dr. Milan Radovanović, and Serbian Energy Law Association (UPES) President Dr. Branislava Lepotić Kovačević.

The moderator was Prof. dr. Dragoslava Stojiljković, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

On behalf of UPES, UPES President Dr. Branislava Lepotić Kovačević participated in the panel and spoke about the complexity of the legal framework for electric vehicles in the European Union and the Republic of Serbia, and on further expectations for the development of this legal framework in the field of energy activities, renewable energy, and energy performance of buildings. During the presentation, she called Vice President of UPES Miloš Kuzman to present the experiences in this field in Croatia and Germany.

During the panel, Dr. Slobodan Mišanović, GSP Belgrade (Public City Transport Company) presented company GSP Belgrade's experiences in using electric buses and expressed the fact that for the full effect of the use of electric vehicles it is essential that the electricity that powers electric vehicles is electricity from renewable energy sources.

Prof. dr. Ivan Blagojević, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, who talked about the technical characteristics of electric and hybrid vehicles in relation to conventional vehicles, pointed out that hydrogen vehicles should always be considered as alternative vehicles.

Nenad Pavlović, M. Sc, and Aleksandar Miladinovic, Petroleum Industry of Serbia, JSC, talked about the project of the Petroleum Industry of Serbia, JSC, and the possibilities and challenges of the use of solar panels at petrol stations and the types of chargers for electric cars.

Tomislav Mićović, Secretary of the Association of Oil Companies of Serbia pointed out the challenges of implementing biofuels as the first step of using renewable energy sources in traffic and spoke of the European Union Directive on alternative fuels.

Dr. Miloš Petrović, President of the Serbian Association of Importers of Vehicles discussed that the offer of vehicles is very diverse, and that about the number of electric vehicles in the European Union, the number of electric vehicles in the Republic of Serbia is smaller, but that there is a significant increase, as many companies buy electric and hybrid vehicles to prove the application of green energy policy.
